The new Garth Park play area is beginning to take shape and due to the mild conditions, the installation programme has kept on track – although wet weather is providing a challenge in avoiding damage to areas not being refurbished such as the existing grassed areas.
All the old play features have been removed and the new equipment is fixed in place with rubber safety matting being installed – we were able to refurbish and restore the wheelchair friendly roundabout and have reused the original slide on a new hilled area.
The old concrete fixings have been utilised in making up the basis for the natural hills that will add an extra dimension to the play area, with large tunnels through the middle. The exciting new water feature is in the process of being cobbled which will follow with pointing across the finish – the water from this feature will be drained into straight into the new café where it will be reused as toilet water.
The outstanding work contains a number of key components to make this area the ‘finished article’ and this includes turfing, soft planting and seeding. We are of course in the hands of the weather and the play area cannot open until these things have established and grass/seeds have taken.
So watch this space for the date of the grand opening and meanwhile watch out for the work on the new café as groundworks for this also commenced this week!!
