New Play Area at Garth Park

New Play Area at Garth Park

Last Updated on September 15, 2020

The work on the new play area in Garth Park is due to start in the next month or so and the project will take approximately 12 weeks to install. The new look play area will include local resourced boulders and man-made natural looking mounds which will fit in well with the traditional looking features already present in Garth Park. The Town Council maintenance team will also be installing seating areas from recycled local timber which has fallen or been felled. The equipment that will be installed to go alongside a new water feature includes:

  • 30m cable run
  • Swings
  • Toddler swings
  • Double swing
  • Nest swing
  • Stand up see saw
  • Crawling tunnels through the mounds
  • Balancing combination unit
  • Activity play panels
  • 2 x rockers
  • 3 x Climbing units

The new play area also includes a Discovery Stream (Water play).

A zone that is slightly off centre so that the existing inclusive roundabout can remain in position; this will enable all users to flow into the water play area as per design. The Discovery Stream will be a visual focal point from all angles of the park including the main car park.

The system will have natural local features such as boulders and laid stones. The water features within will have areas where the users (children) will create pressure via pumps and gully’s making the water follow around the feature. Those features include:

  • Standing platforms
  • Gully gates
  • Water spiral/screw
  • Water mushrooms
  • Waterspout seats
  • Wooden water tubs
  • Flap gates

The total cost of the project is £160k and we have been well support by WREN securing a grant of £69,822.00 to go toward this exciting new phase in Garth Park.
