The move comes as the nation continues to follow strict social distancing rules to help reduce the spread of covid-19.
Two music events – an Abba tribute act and a 1980s night, as well as the Superhero Activity Day, all which were due to take place in August, have been cancelled.
Council leader Richard Mould said: “I know people will be very disappointed that we have been forced to cancel our summer events. It has been a tough decision, but it is the right decision.
“We must all do our bit to help fight the spread of this horrible disease and continue to follow the Government’s advice that gatherings of more than six people from different households should not take place.
“We hope to come back next year bigger and better.”
Last month’s VE Day celebrations were also cancelled and special online events were hosted by the council instead.
